About Us

Every week the Dannevirke SPCA receives unwanted, injured & stray animals. These animals need loving homes. The Dannevirke SPCA is a purely voluntary organization who receives no government or local body funding whatsoever. We rely entirely on donations, bequests and our own fund-raising efforts for our income. The RNZSPCA has more details on the structure of SPCA. This area of our website is also for stories from succesful adoptions. So please send in your stories and pictures and we'll include them here. This is also the place to find some "Whats new with us". This will hopefully be updated regualary.

Hello, My name is Gus and I was adopted by Jan while passing through Dannevirke a few weeks ago. The adult cats at home did not like me very much so Jan would take me with her to work each day to give them a break from me. And guess what? they love me so much there that they think I belong with them. Work is Duart, a residential care facility in Havelock North. I keep the residents amused for hours and I have even had a sleepover!! The cats at home are gradually getting used to me, so no doubt there will be a fight soon as to where I am to stay permanently. Maybe the share thing will work indefinitely. I do love to get home though as life on the farm with the other cats, the Jill Russell and Nelson, the kune kune pig is pretty good. I have birds in an aviary and fish in the pond to dream about all day as well. Thank you for allowing me to be adopted by Jan

It must be nearly a year now since we recieved the new addition to our family from you. She has been named Black, she is still abit frightened of any rustling of plastic bags, ( maybe in her past this was used to scare her away, being a stray cat ) Black is one of three cats ( all strays at one time, for whatever reason ) and all have made great pets, they all have their own character. I am sure they know they have landed on their "paws" ( so to speak ) by the way they show their love and affection to us. If you are looking for a pet, please check out what is available here first. ( Ddv S.P.C.A ) Black.. for whatever reason loves to sleep next to the toilet ? she finds wet washing someting to purr about, as well as dirty washing someting to get really excited about, and we will not say as to what article of clothing she finds most attracted to... Mmmm can be alittle bit of an embarrassment there, for some family members. I had heard some cats do have a problem in this area, but never really thought it was real...until now. We love her dearly, and are so pleased to have her part of our life and home. Many thanks to Dannevirke S.P.C.A Carol.
